The LifeStraw Collapsible Squeeze Bottle

LifeStraw’s collapsible squeeze bottle was created to meet every challenge thrown at it. Drink from the bottle as normal to rehydrate, or make use of its squeeze system for cooking or storage in other containers. There’s even the option to use the filter itself as a straw – the sheer versatility of this bottle really makes it stand out from the crowd.

The filter

We’ll go through the outer components of this bottle later, as it’s the filter that really matters here. Though small, the LifeStraw filter works hard to remove bacteria, parasites, microplastics, sand, silt, and cloudiness from your water.

We were really impressed to learn it has a lifespan of up to 2,000 litres – it’s clear that sustainability was a priority here and it’s one of the main focal points of Peak Series. When the bottle reaches the end of its lifetime, it’s designed to simply stop working so you’re never putting your health at risk. It will take some serious work to reach the end of the filter, but we’d always recommend carrying the original LifeStraw with you as a backup.

The squeeze bottle meets the all-important US EPA & NSF P231 drinking water standards. This really becomes apparent upon testing – you’re sure to have never tasted better-filtered water than this, but more on that later.

Outside the bottle

The LifeStraw squeeze bottle is made from premium, sustainable materials that are designed to last. You’ll notice just how tough this bottle is when you unwrap it for the first time, but it’s also flexible enough to roll up and store for use on your adventures.

A carry hook on the top of the bottle makes it easy to attach it to the outside of your rucksack. However, there’s no need to worry about leaks if you would prefer to store it inside your bag, as the LifeStraw squeeze bottle has a specially designed over-cap to protect against this.

How to use the LifeStraw Squeeze Bottle

This all-in-one bottle makes it easy to filter safe water for drinking cooking, washing, storage, and more. Simply fill the bottle from a water source (we have tips for collecting the cleanest water in our water purification guide), then drink straight from the straw or squeeze the bag to decanter the liquid.

The filter can provide up to 3 litres of water per minute, which is super fast for a bottle of this size. To get every last drop of liquid, simply thread the filter onto the outside of the pouch.

The squeeze bottle is also compatible with several other LifeStraw products. Connect it to a Gravity Bag for larger amounts of free-flowing water, or use it with the Personal Water Filter Straw for easier access to those last few drops.

LifeStraw backwash system

When you receive your Peak Series bottle, you’ll notice that it comes with an additional backwash tool. Clean out your filter and removes excess water in between uses by plunging air into the system with this tool.

Using the bottle

We’ve found it so easy to use this pouch bottle from Lifestraw. It’s a great hiking essential that now comes with us everywhere we go, even though we always try to carry plenty of clean water. The peace of mind that comes with having the extra tool with us really makes the difference. Plus, at just 110 grams, it adds very little to the weight of our packs.

It’s not really our thing, but we can also see why this bottle would be great for trail runners. If you don’t like carrying a reservoir in your bag and think water bottles weigh you down, this is a great option to clip onto your person.

As for the quality of the water – we really can say the LifeStraw filter is the best we’ve tried so far. It’s also the nearest we’ve gotten to drinking anything that tastes remotely like our tap water back home in the Lake District, and that’s a serious compliment!

If you’re looking for a new water filtration tool or simply need a product in case of emergencies, we’d highly recommend giving this pouch a try.
