Mountain Warehouse Expedition Hybrid Trousers review
There’s always talk surrounding the best women’s hiking gear, which often comes down to the good old leggings vs trousers debate. I’m usually in favour of a good pair of walking leggings, but I’ve recently switched them out to test the Expedition Hybrid Trousers from Mountain Warehouse.
I’ve really put these trousers through their paces, and I’m now ready to share my full review here. Keep reading to learn more about the Expedition Hybrid’s features, sizing, performance, and durability.
Features
The Expedition Hybrid walking trousers have a couple of key features which help them to stand out against others in the market. We’ll start with their waterproofing, as they’re treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent) to help water exposure bead and roll off the fabric.
I’d recommend re-proofing your Hybrids every few wears to keep them working at their best – you can use a similar method to cleaning a waterproof jacket.
The trousers are made using RipStop fabric, which essentially helps to prevent wear and tear. I’m admittedly prone to a stumble or two when out on the fells, and I’m happy to report no damage to my Hybrids as of yet.
The Expedition Hybrid trousers have both zipped and press stud pockets to keep your belongings secure on the trail.
Expedition Hybrid trousers fit
I hope you’re going to be as excited about this as me – these Mountain Warehouse trousers are high-waisted! I’ve spent many an hour trying uncomfortable, low-waisted legwear, so I was so glad when these came in the post. I find high-waisted walking trousers fit much better and provide extra room for movement.
Mountain Warehouse clothing tends to work on the generous side, so I’d recommend sizing down if your fit is a little in-between. I’m currently sitting between size 12 and 14, so I’m wearing the 12s here. They’re available in UK sizes 4 to 22, and there’s a guide on the Mountain Warehouse site to help you find your best fit. It’s important to note the waist on these trousers is not elasticated if that’s something you veer towards.
Testing the Expedition Hybrid trousers
I’ve put these Mountain Warehouse trousers through several tests in the last couple of months, and they’ve held up really well. I’ve noticed they work best paired with a base layer during the winter months, but I’m expecting them to perform well individually when the weather warms up a little.
The hybrids are also really easy to wash – it’s recommended to use a product like the Grangers Wash and Repel to maintain them, but I’ve also found no issue chucking them in with a regular load every now and again. Having said that, remember to never machine dry your walking trousers!
Overall verdict
I have to admit that the Expedition Hybrids have changed my stance on women’s walking trousers. Not only are these built with adventures in mind, but I love that they’re also tailored towards a good fit – the high waist really has tipped the scales for me here.
If you’re a regular leggings wearer, I’d highly recommend trying these out for size. You’ll definitely be impressed with their fit, and you’ll be even more impressed at how much better they perform outdoors!
